Poor dog

Anyone good with animals?

My dog is upset over something, for the last few days she's been whimpering and almost crying while walking around the house. Nothing traumatic has happened lately(or ever for that matter) but whenever someone leaves the house or returns to the house she just gets upset and whimpers for a while, even if she's sitting beside them! She has a little squeaky welly toy that she wont leave anywhere, she won't take it out of her mouth unless to eat food or go for a walk and this is not like her at all! I'm worried about her, it looks like she's having anxiety attacks, she has very strange looking dreams, she figgits a lot more than usual.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with her or whats upsetting her?

when my doggy as like that i took him the vets an they said that dogs can just get depressed too. we just got told to make loadsa fuss an stuff an make sure he was eatin properly coz if theyre not eating then it can be coz theyre ill.

Personally, I'd take her to the vet. It could easily be something internal causing pain and if she's not shown anxiety this way before it would be well worth at least having her checked. Don't you think? James.

I think the pet is facing anxiety issues!! you need to see a vet to get her some calming medicines

happens if the pet is attached to the members a bit too much and they leave or even sometimes its more a phychological reaction

see the vet and ensure dont have loud music/ noises around the pet and keep everything as calm and dont change the enviornment too much

Anything changed around the house? A move going on? Furniture being changed around? Could be a number of things. Is she completely out of character? i.e. Is there anything she used to do that she is still doing, or is it a complete change?

Personally I'm not a great believer in vets, but I guess if there is nothing else you can do... Better safe than sorry.

  Yeah, I don't like the vet idea so much, they can't talk to her, they can only pump her with drugs or something for her to calm down, that doesnt seem appealing! She still sits up with me on the couch and cuddles, she still gets jealous when I call over the cat, but she cant go for a walk without jumping up to me 100 times to lick my hand!

I'd agree with l0ki. It could well be some changes in the house (a move, new furniture, somebody's visit) that we humans would not consider anything special, but it could have scared or upset the doggie somehow. Troubled dreams point to some anxiety problem, I would say. It's good to have medical (a vet's) opinion, but on the other side... Crazy as it seems, you can just ask her what is wrong - and an answer might come to you in a dream, or as a flash of intuition or something. Talking from experience
Anyway, it's been almost 24 hours and the doggie might be absolutely fine by now! How is she?

  My sister took her away from the house for the night down to the family home, they should be back sometime this evening so I shall update what the story is later when I see her again. Thank you for your comment x

erm... going from one house to another and back? this might be the reason you know. I know that cats don't like to be moved like that (and they can find their way back from virtually wherever, right). Dogs? I am not sure. Update me when she is back. Who knows, maybe she even feels better after this little night out? x

Same thing happened to my dog. Turned out to be a phantom pregnancy. The squeaky noise made by the toy I guess sounded like a puppy to her.

I had to take the toy away. She was fine in about 2 weeks!
